Timber Decking Gold Coast
Nothing quite matches the natural warmth and character of real hardwood underfoot. There’s a reason timber decking has been the go-to choice for Gold Coast homes for decades, and when it’s done right, it’s hard to beat.
At GJR Decking, we’ve been designing and building hardwood decks across the Gold Coast for years. We know what works in this climate, which species hold up and which ones don’t, and how to build a deck that looks just as good in ten years as it does on day one.
Our founder is on-site for every consultation and oversees every build, so you’re always dealing directly with the person making the decisions. That hands-on approach is a big part of why we’ve been recognised nationally by the Australian Deck and Handrail Association (ADHRA) for the quality of our work.
If you’re thinking about a new timber deck, get in touch. We’d love to come out, take a look at your space and talk through what’s possible.
The Gold Coast is made for outdoor living. Pool days, long weekends on the deck, family barbecues, quiet mornings with a coffee. A well-built timber deck ties all of that together and becomes the space where life actually happens.
We build timber decks for all kinds of applications: pool surrounds, entertaining areas, balconies, garden spaces, walkways and full outdoor living zones. Whatever you’ve got in mind, we’ll design and build it to suit your home and how you use it.
There’s a timeless quality to natural hardwood that’s hard to replicate. The grain, the colour variation, the way it weathers and develops character over time. It’s why so many Gold Coast homeowners still choose timber for their outdoor spaces.
We work with a range of hardwood species, including Merbau, spotted gum, blackbutt, ironbark and cypress pine. Each one brings something different to a project, whether that’s the rich tones of spotted gum, the durability of ironbark, or the affordability and ground-level performance of Merbau.
Selecting the right species for your site and conditions is one of the most important decisions in the build, and we take it seriously.
Composite decking has come a long way, and for homeowners who want the look of timber without the ongoing maintenance, it’s well worth considering. You get a deck that holds its colour and performs year after year.
We work with premium composite brands, including Trex, and we’re one of the highest-ranked Trex installers in Australia. If you’re weighing up your options between timber and composite, we’re happy to walk you through both during your consultation. To find out more about our composite decking projects and what’s involved, speak with our team.
A quality timber deck does more than create extra living space. Done properly, it adds genuine value to your property. We pride ourselves on delivering a high-end result for every client. That means external-grade hardware throughout, carefully sourced timber, and a build standard we’d be happy to put our name on.
We treat every home the same way we’d treat our own, because the details that go into a build are what separate a deck that lasts from one that doesn’t.
A timber deck doesn’t have to be simple to be beautiful, but it does take the right builder to bring a design to life in natural hardwood. We’ve built timber decks with picture-frame borders, herringbone detailing, breaker boards between sections, contrasting species for feature areas, and multi-directional layouts that give decks real depth and presence.
The design process starts on-site. Gavin will walk your space with you, talk through how you want it to look and how you’ll actually use it, and put together a clear layout so you know exactly what you’re getting. For larger or more detailed projects, we also offer 3D CAD renderings so you can visualise the finished deck before we start building.
It depends on the species and how much sun and weather the deck is exposed to. As a general guide, most hardwood decks on the Gold Coast benefit from an oil or stain every 6 to 12 months.
It depends on your site. Merbau is a reliable all-rounder, especially for decks closer to the ground. Spotted gum and blackbutt are popular for a more premium finish. We’ll recommend the best species based on your project during the consultation.
A well-built hardwood deck that’s properly maintained can last 15 to 25 years or more. Species selection, build quality, and consistent maintenance are the key factors.
Yes. We take care of all necessary certifications and coordinate with engineers where required. Your project will meet all structural and compliance requirements.
Absolutely. We regularly build timber decks with picture frames, breaker boards, herringbone borders and multi-directional layouts.
The upfront cost is generally lower. But when you factor in the ongoing costs of oiling, sanding and restaining over the life of the deck, the total cost of ownership can be comparable. We’re happy to walk you through both options.
